Als ich das erste Buch dieser Serie las, fand ich die sprechenden Tiere furchtbar kitschig.( Naja, immerhin sprechen sie nur untereinander und nicht mit den Menschen..) Aber der Erzählstil war mitreißend und die Charaktere so sympathisch, dass ich hängengeblieben bin. Zu diesem Buch muss ich sagen: Seit Harry nicht mehr bei der Post arbeitet, verwandelt sie sich mehr und mehr in eine von diesen snobistischen Virginian Ladies, die nur Autos und Fuchsjagden im Kopf haben (aber trotz allem mit Herz). Dabei kann sie sich das finanziell gar nicht leisten.. es sei denn, sie lässt sich endlich auf ihren neuentflammten Ex Fair ein... aber darauf müssen wir wohl noch wenigstens bis zum nächsten Band warten... Ansonsten kann man sich auf Brown's Erzählstil wie immer verlassen, gute Unterhaltung vor dem Hintergrund eines Klosters und einer Madonna, die Blut weint... Als Einstieg in die Serie vielleicht nicht gerade geeignet, aber trotzdem okay!
Harry und Susan treffen sich durch Zufall an einer Marienstatue, die anfängt, Blut zu weinen. Kurz darauf stirbt ein Mönch, sein Leichnam wird erfroren in Gebetshaltung zu Füßen der Statue gefunden. Dann folgen weitere Todesfälle...Obwohl sich der Einstieg gut anhört, entwickelt sich später überraschend wenig. Die Story hätte man auch in einer Kurzgeschichte erzählen können. Das Füllwerk, um das Buch auf 300 Seiten zu bringen, sind persönliche Geschichten von Harry und Susan sowie von Boom Boom, einer Bekannten, die sich in den vorherigen Bänden traditionell durch einen hohen Männerverbrauch auszeichnete. Boom Boom ist nun plötzlich lesbisch geworden. Die Lesbengeschichten und privaten Lappalien, das Getue um Reichtum und Schönheit, und dann auch noch eine ziemlich vorhersehbare Handlung fand ich zuletzt nur noch langweilig. Es ist wohl das letzte Buch, was ich von der ursprünglich mal netten Serie lesen werde.

Ich habe alle Sneaky Pie Krimis mit Begeisterung gelesen. Das vorletzte Buch, "Whisker of Evil", war schon etwas schwächer als die anderen, aber ich hänge an den Charakteren, da nimmt man es hin. Aber als ich "Cat's Eyewitness" gelesen habe, hat es gereicht. Es war langweilig, durchsichtig und stilistisch unerträglich schlecht. Bestimmt Floskel wiederholten sich so oft, dass es Überwindung kostete weiter zu lesen. Schade.
